Your Own Paris:
Parisian Chic Beyond the Clichés

What lies behind the legend of Parisian chic and style - a walk through the city's most elegant spots

PRIVATE TOUR

Private Chic Paris Tour:
A Journey Through Luxury, Style, and History

Paris. The last word in taste. Life here seems to happen entirely somewhere between the Ritz, Dior, Chanel, and a glass of champagne, while work is just endless parties, presentations, and dinners at the right restaurants. Any Parisian knows how to look elegant and expensive, even if they just ran out for bread — a textbook case of “I woke up like this” elegance. But the main character in this whole myth, obviously, is the Parisian woman. Her wardrobe consists of a trench coat, ballet flats, a white shirt, jeans, a silk scarf, and something Chanel - and that kind of simplicity costs a month's salary. The men here are dangerously charming. And the Parisian women - no, not sexy, but effortlessly sensual, naturally elegant, a little bored, and every single one reading Proust. Even weariness is exquisite in this city. And every street inevitably leads to romance, infidelity, an existential crisis, or at the very least, buying a new dress.

Where did this myth about Parisian chic come from? How is it constructed from within? Where did it take root, and why does it still resonate today? What’s true, and what’s not? And what's really behind that famous Parisian ease and nonchalance? We’ll explore this by heading to the part of Paris filled with its most fashionable boutiques and jewelry stores, exquisite patisseries, historic restaurants, lovely gardens, and pricey art galleries. We’ll see how centuries of history, court culture, old money, the urban fabric, the tradition of theatricality, and the high art of hiding painstaking daily work behind a façade of ease — all come together to form this “myth.” And why, even when deconstructed, it loses none of its value or charm.

What We'll See During Our Paris Tour

We’ll take a walk through the streets and quarters where all the luxury of Paris seems to gather. We'll check out:
  • Saint-Honoré Street (Rue Saint-Honoré), one of the key addresses for luxury in Paris, featuring cozy perfume shops, tableware, chocolate boutiques, and fashion houses.
  • The Royal Palace (Palais-Royal / Palais-Cardinal)—the palace of Cardinal Richelieu, the courtyard of honor with the "Buren Columns" (Les Deux Plateaux), the garden, and the galleries of the Palais-Royal.
  • The Garnier Opera (Opéra Garnier / Palais Garnier) and the Comédie-Française Theater.
  • The Flags of France (Les Drapeaux de France - Noxa), a boutique of handmade tin soldiers.
  • Café Verlet, one of Paris's oldest coffee houses with its own roastery and traditional treats: candied fruits and plump madeleines.
  • The Meurice Patisserie by Cédric Grolet (La Pâtisserie du Meurice par Cédric Grolet) and Café Angelina.
  • Vendôme Square (Place Vendôme)—the heart of Parisian high jewellery.
  • Chanel and Dior boutiques, including the legendary Chanel at 31 Cambon Street (Rue Cambon); Goyard and Louis Vuitton — historic houses of travel trunks, suitcases, and leather accessories.
  • The Ritz Hotel (Hôtel Ritz), where Coco Chanel lived for over 30 years, and the historic Louvre Hotel (Hôtel du Louvre).
  • The Tuileries Garden (Jardin des Tuileries) — a classic French garden designed by Louis XIV’s gardener.
  • The first Ladurée patisserie on Royale Street (Rue Royale), where the story of the Parisian macaron began.
  • Concorde Square (Place de la Concorde), the site of Louis XVI’s execution.
  • The Champs-Élysées.

What We'll Learn:
The Truth Behind the Parisian Myth

How exactly did France become the world's capital of fashion and perfume? How do you transform a physical object into a cultural symbol? Why did these specific addresses and brands end up symbolizing luxury? Why are shop windows sometimes just as important as museums? What lies behind this Parisian ease and even a certain nonchalance? Today, we're going to tear apart the myth of Parisian chic, checking out how it started, what it’s built from, and why it remains so flawlessly effective today. And why no amount of deconstruction can destroy the myth's charm.

We'll talk about the freedom and independence of French women at the beginning of the 20th century, looking at Coco Chanel and Colette.

We’ll find out how coffee and coffee shops fueled the Revolution. We’ll also cover how the French brewed coffee back then, and how they do it now. And what exactly is an “egoist” coffee pot?

And why did the Prefect of Paris decide to go for a massive renovation of the city in the 19th century? We’ll cover that too. Plus a ton of other fascinating things.

Since our tour is private, we’ll focus on the exact things you're interested in. We look forward to welcoming you to the Paris of style and luxury!

What We’ll Do:
Create Your Own Recipe for Chic

We don't just tell stories on our tours. We manage to squeeze in a bunch of other interesting, or just plain fun, things. We will:
  • Count Buren's striped columns and get some nice photos with them.
  • Try some pastries and coffee the French way at one of the area’s outstanding cafés.
  • Read poems in the garden where little Louis XIV used to stroll.
  • Create our own recipe for Parisian casual chic and charm.
And we’ll do many more wonderful things. As for stunning photos, we can definitely promise you those. Come along!

And if you actually made it to the end, we've got a little secret for you. This tour was created by our dear Anya, who has lived in Paris for most of her life and is deeply in love with the city. Anya is the ultimate perfectionist, so you can expect nothing less than the best experience possible.
