3 Day Sahara Desert Tour: From Marrakech or Any Other City

The Sahara is a different world altogether. Even time flows differently here. In fact, time doesn't exist here at all. There are only endless alien landscapes, the gentle sway of a camel beneath you, and a stunning starry sky accompanied by the melodious song of your guide. Here, you start to notice things you usually overlook in everyday life. You appreciate their beauty and enjoy every minute of it.

During a 3-day Sahara desert tour, you'll encounter the Atlas Mountains with their majestic gorges, snow-capped peaks, and mud-brick villages clinging to the slopes, seemingly impossible to reach. You'll discover lush oases suddenly appearing in the desert, with groves of date palms and gardens. There will be ancient fortresses and a night in the desert, the winding alleys of old medinas and music under the stars, dunes, and even the Moroccan "Hollywood." We'll learn about the life and culture of the Sahara's nomads and the Amazighs, practice pottery and camel herding, and perhaps help with harvesting dates, cooking tagine, or weaving a wedding carpet. We'll take countless photos, try local dishes, and solve many mysteries. And we will enjoy every minute of this journey.

Trips like these are memorable, and sometimes even life-changing. It's no wonder many Europeans visit the Sahara year after year—perhaps to remember that life is more than work, that the world is beautiful and grand, that minor troubles aren't worth getting upset over, and that the daily hustle shouldn't distract us from something much more important, or maybe to restore their inner balance and gain strength. Everyone comes for their reasons. And many return again and again.

This 3-day Sahara desert tour from Marrakech, Casablanca, Fes, Agadir, or any other city in Morocco is highly popular. It's great for anyone who wants to see the desert with dunes but doesn't have much time. But if you have an extra day, we recommend the four-day route. You'll spend a bit more time, but the journey will be less tiring, and you'll see, learn, and experience so much more.

Please find detailed information about the route and the cost of our 3-day Sahara tour from Marrakech below. And don't forget, we also have a 4-day Sahara desert tour. Alternatively, you can embark on a custom tour we will design specifically for your interests, wishes, and even dietary needs. Just write to us with your preferences.

3-Day Sahara Tour from Marrakech Tour Itinerary

Day 1.
Marrakech - Tizi-n-Tichka Pass - Zagora - M'Hamid Oasis - Erg chigaga dunes.
500km, 10 hours of a travel time

We will leave Marrakech at 7 AM to catch a breathtaking sunset amidst the dunes of the Sahara. Along the way through the Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, we will be treated to stunning views, picturesque mountain villages and fortresses, and tastings of traditional local cuisine. We will stop at the most beautiful spots to take photos. For the last leg of our journey, we will ride camels through the middle of the desert. After sunset, a festive dinner will await us at the camp under the insanely beautiful, star-studded desert sky.

We will spend a significant part of the day on the road during our 3-day Sahara desert tour from Marrakech. However, during this time, our guide will share insights about the nature and history of Morocco, the people inhabiting this beautiful country, and their culture and customs. You will learn about Morocco in one day so much that you could write a book about it :)

Day 2.
Erg chigaga - Anti-Atlas - "Rally Paris-Dakar" track - Foum Zguid.
300 km, 5.5 hours of a travel time

After witnessing a magnificent sunrise over the dunes and having breakfast, we'll set off across the desert in jeeps. We'll visit an oasis where the tastiest dates in the world grow. You'll see stunning wind-eroded formations, the mountain landscapes of the Anti-Atlas, settlements of the nomadic Sahrawis (don't confuse them with the Tuaregs :)), and Berber villages. We'll learn about the history, traditions, and crafts of the local people. We'll delve into the local cuisine, learn to bake bread or cook tagine if you wish, and try our hand at pottery or weaving. By the way, this area produces what we believe to be the most beautiful ceramics and carpets in Morocco. In the late afternoon, we'll arrive in Ouarzazate.

Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel you have booked.

Day 3.
Ouarzazate - Aït-Ben-Haddou - Tizi-n-Tichka Pass - High Atlas - Marrakech.
200km, 4 hours of a travel time

We'll start the day with a visit to the world's biggest film studio, Atlas Studios. Scenes from 'Game of Thrones,' 'Aladdin,' 'Gladiator,' and many other films were shot here. After wandering among biblical temples, Egyptian pyramids, and Tibetan monasteries, we'll head to the grand Amazigh fortress of Aït-Ben-Haddou. You might recognize it from numerous movies, and it has many stories to tell! We'll visit the local bazaar and get lost in the mysterious alleys of this amazing historical and architectural monument. Get ready to take stunning images. After lunch, we'll travel through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass and return to Marrakech by 5 PM, ending our 3-day Sahara tour.
